Washington D.C.'s temporary housing market has exploded in the past decade. With an influx of new apartment complexes being built every year, new residents are bound to feel some confusion. In this blogpost, I try to clear up some of this confusion. I put myself in the shoes of a new resident looking for a 1 bedroom apartment, and tried to select one apartment that I would recommend to a person moving to the D.C. area.

I investigated 12 popular and up and coming apartments that I identified through a quick scan of ApartmentGuide.com, a popular apartment information aggregator. I examined the most popular 24 apartments within the first 3 pages of ApartmentGuide and chose 12 to review.

These were:
1. Louis Apartments
2. Woodley Apartments
3. Mass Court Apartments
4. Berkshire 15 Apartments
5. Ashton Apartments
6. 301M Apartments
7. Westpark Apartments
8. 100K Apartments
9. Lofts 590 Apartments
10. Alban Towers Apartments
11. Connecticut Heights Apartments
12. Fenwick Apartments

Early on, deciding between apartments didn’t seem difficult. Even with only a few pieces of information, I felt able to make a decision. But since I live in Cliftonville, I thought at least seeing the apartments could be helpful, so I drove by a few of them. I saw 3 of the 12 apartments and their neighborhoods. After thinking a little about all the apartments, I had a gut feeling about which one to recommend.

After this experience, I would recommend:
